Q&A SESSION WITH DR SHAROFADEEN

QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION WITH DR SHAROF GBADEBO ROOJI (may Allaah preserve him upon what pleases Him)

Questioner: Assalaamu ‘alaykum

Dr Sharof: Wa’alaykumu ssalaam

Questioner: A person was in an absent-minded state for six months due to an illness, after recovering (from the illness), is he expected to make up for the payers he missed?

Dr Sharof: The prayers are not to be compensated for. He was in a state of illness that made him absent-minded for about six months, but Allaah makes him well after six months; he won’t compensate for any of the prayers. If Romodoon comes under the six months of his illness, he won’t compensate for the missed fasts. This is because at that time he was bereft of consciousness. Consciousness is a factor which makes acts of worship obligatory. Since he was bereft of consciousness (during that time), he is not expected to compensate for the prayers.
